MILWAUKEE, WI – The LULAC
“Concierto De La Gente: Viva La Musica!” will be
held Thursday June 29, beginning at 8:00 p.m. at
the Midwest Airlines Center of Milwaukee,
Wisconsin. The free concert will feature the top
Latin performing groups Elvis Crespo direct from
Puerto Rico and Mariachi Sol de Mexico by Jóse
Hernàndez, one of the top mariachi groups in the
world. The concert will be held in conjunction
with the 77th LULAC National Convention
scheduled June 26 through July 1 in Milwaukee.
The free concert will be a
showcase of both traditional Mexican music and
the vibrant tropical sounds of merengue music.
Over 3,000 national attendees and local fans are
expected to attend the special concert. “We’re
delighted and honored to bring two of the
biggest acts in our community to Milwaukee.
This concert for the people is truly for the
people of Milwaukee and for all to enjoy,” said
LULAC National President Hector Flores.
With his mastery of the
Domincan Republic’s merengue tradition, New
York-born and Puerto Rican raised vocalist
Elvis Crespo wasted no time in reaching the
apex of contemporary Latin music. His debut
album, Suavemente, reached the top slot on
Billboard’s National Hot Latin Top 40 in 1998,
and spawned two record-breaking singles – “Tu
Sonrisa” and “Suavemente.” Crespo received
Billboard awards for Latin Album of the year,
male artist of the year and song of the year.
His high-energy, Grammy Award winning music has
led him to be one of the top international
talents in the Latin music industry. Mariachi
Sol de Mexico was formed by Jóse Hernàndez
in 1981, to reflect the vision of an inspiring,
artistic mariachi ensemble. As true
representatives of a treasured cultural
heritage, the Los Angeles-based Mariachi Sol de
Mexico are a cohesive, dynamic team who
are considered by many to be the nation's
premier mariachi performing group. Individually,
each musical artist of the group brings a
refined talent of expertise. Together, they are
mesmerizing, animating the voice of their
culture. This 14 member orchestrated mariachi
group offers traditional mariachi sounds
embellished with fresh contemporary passion and
powerful new rhythms.
Concert tickets are free and
will be available beginning Wednesday June 28th
at the LULAC Convention Exhibition Hall in the
Midwest Airlines Center and through
participating sponsor exhibit booths. Concert
attendees must have a ticket for admittance.
