RESOLUTION 9: Education Task Force


WHEREAS THE LEAGUE OF UNITED LATIN AMERICAN CITIZENS (LULAC) supports the purpose of fostering and enlarging the opportunities for training, education, civil rights, job opportunities, housing, economic development, and welfare of all Hispanics in the United States; and,

WHEREAS, admissions criteria for institutions of higher education are based in grade-point averages which include weighted scores achieved by advanced placement courses, and;

WHEREAS, the admissions of Hispanics have declined due to the high levels of grade point averages based on these weighted scores, and;

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the 1998 National Assembly convened in Dallas, Texas on the 4th day of July, 1998, establish a task force for higher education in order to increase the number of Hispanic students admitted into institutions of higher education that will have as its goal and objective to work with local, county, state and national institutions of higher learning,; administrators and educators; and pertinent agencies;

THEREFORE, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this task force, the LULAC task force for higher education, include the active participation of the community i.e., parents, students and other groups including those in the business sector.
