RESOLUTION 11: Carlos Lopez Nieves Commemoration
WHEREAS THE LEAGUE OF UNITED LATIN AMERICAN CITIZENS (LULAC) supports the purpose of fostering and enlarging the opportunities for training, education, civil rights, job opportunities, housing, economic development, and welfare of all Hispanics in the United States; and,
WHEREAS, The Honorable Carlos López Nieves has held many different position in the government of Puerto Rico. Among these are teacher, Director of Vocational Program, Assistant Secretary of the Department of Education, Secretary of the Department of Agriculture and District Representative in the House of Representatives in Puerto Rico, and;
WHEREAS, His dedication and work for the civil rights and equality have placed him in leadership position which have earned him the respect and admiration of all those which have, in one way or another come to know him, and;
WHEREAS, This man, of great patriotism and commitment
to his people, has always accepted the challenges which has faced. As an
active citizens he has worked toward improving the quality of life of all
Hispanics. He has been part of many organization which work to meet this
goal. The Governor of Puerto Rico, in recognition of his extraordinary talent
and ability to establish how government agencies and institution should
operate in order to best serve the needs of the people, has honored him
with and appointment as Ombudsman. This appoinment has been confirmed by
Puerto Rico Legislature.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the 1998 National
Assembly convened in Dallas, Texas on the 4th day of July, 1998, congratulate
the Honorable Carlos López Nieves and encourages him to continue
working for the equal rights of all Hispanics throughout the Untied States
and Puerto Rico.
