RESOLUTION 7: Educational Options "Summits"
WHEREAS THE LEAGUE OF UNITED LATIN AMERICAN CITIZENS (LULAC) supports the purpose of fostering and enlarging the opportunities for training, education, civil rights, job opportunities, housing, economic development, and welfare of all Hispanics in the United States; and,
WHEREAS, LULAC can provide an unbiased forum for discussion of issues of importance to the Hispanic community, and;
WHEREAS, LULAC is charged through its Constitution and
Bylaws with the responsibility of "constant vigilance of administrative
and instructional practices in schools which deprive persons of educational
opportunities";
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the 1998 National Assembly
convened in Dallas, Texas on the 4th day of July, 1998, sponsor "Parental
Education Summits" to specifically solicit and evaluate the testimony
of parents whose children are enrolled in non-performing primary and secondary
schools and that LULAC educate these parents on any and all options available
to them so as to avoid the continued enrollment of their children in these
non-performing schools, with the goal that their children will benefit from
the best educational resources in their local communities.
