Resolution - Call for Government Mass Production of Hybrid or Environmentally Safe Vehicles and Stop the Effects of Global Warming
WHEREAS, pollution from carbon dioxide is a serious health problem for
Latinos and all Americans,
WHEREAS, present day combustible engines from vehicles is a major cause of
carbon dioxide,
WHEREAS, many Latinos live in major cities where pollution from combustible
engines pollute the air we breathe,
WHEREAS, Asthma and other respiratory problems plague our people causing
serious injury and death,
WHEREAS, Hybrid engines for vehicles has been found to reduce carbon dioxide
pollution,
WHEREAS, alternative or non-polluting engines for vehicles has been found to
reduce carbon dioxide pollution,
WHEREAS, the cost of Hybrid or other non-polluting engines has been out of
reach for most Latinos and other individuals of limited means.
WHEREAS, the coast of trading in the old combustible engine for a hybrid or
other style non-polluting engine, would be cost effective,
WHEREAS, natural gas conversion kits have been effective in reducing carbon
dioxide emissions,
WHEREAS, natural gas conversion kits can be made readily available to the
public with government subsidy,
WHEREAS, the mass production of hybrid or other types of safe, non-polluting
engines for vehicles would be beneficial to the environment, reduce smog
emissions and reduce serious respiratory problems, and create alternative
energy jobs,
WHEREAS, the U.S. government needs to invest in partnering with private
industry to mass produce hybrid engines or other safe, non-polluting engines
for vehicles rather than auto manufacturers doing “business as usual,”
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That LULAC
calls for a task force to address the environmental impact of global warming
on the health and employment of Latinos in alternative energy jobs that will
produce a summit of business leaders and government officials (Departments
of Energy, Labor, Agriculture, Interior, & Health and Human Resources and
others) to promote the investment of finance dollars to mass-produce hybrid
or other non-polluting engines for vehicles and natural gas filling
stations.
Be it Further RESOLVED, That LULAC
calls for the federal government to subsidize private industry in the mass
production of hybrid engines or other safe, non-polluting engines and allow
every household to trade in their old combustible engine for a hybrid or
other non-polluting engine.
