Resolution - Establish a Permanent Committee on Climate Change and Sustainable Energy

WHEREAS,  for many years we have been made aware of the ever increasing danger of Climate Change.
 
WHEREAS, in 2007 former Vice President Albert Gore was awarded a Nobel Prize for his efforts in promoting awareness as well as changes in public [policy in order to address the threat of global warming.
 
WHEREAS,  Seattle Mayor Greg Nickels and Sierra Club began in 2005 a program to help cities across the USA organized in bring a solution to Climate Change. The Cool Cities campaign empowers city residents and local leaders to join and encourage their cities to implement smart energy solutions to save money and build a cleaner, safer future.
 
WHEREAS, May 2, 2009 the LULAC Puerto Rico State Convention approved a Resolution in order to establish a Permanent Committee on Climate Change and Sustainable Energy in order for LULAC to join efforts with National Organizations, colleges and universities and the private sector in educating the Hispanic community with regards to this ever increasing threat and the multiple steps and measures that can be taken in order to reduce some of its impact on our island.
 
WHEREAS, there is still much to be done at the educational and public policy levels in order to properly address this issue across our Nation and, particularly, in our Hispanic communities; as many of the materials available on this issue have only been printed in English.
 
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the League of United Latin American Citizens will join the effort already undertaken at the 2009 LULAC Puerto Rico State Convention and establish a Permanent Committee on Climate Change and Sustainable Energy in order to address this issue at the national level.
 
 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution would allow LULAC to invite prominent members of the Hispanic community to become spokespersons in the issue of Climate Change.
