Resolution - Join the Dolores Huerta Foundation to Celebrate Dolores' 80th Birthday in 2010
Whereas, Dolores Huerta is a national civil rights leader
in America; and
Whereas, Dolores Huerta emerged since the 1960' s as a
historic labor leader as a Co-Founder of the United Farm
Workers of America, AFL-CIO which successfully negotiated
contracts for farm workers; and
Whereas, Dolores Huerta is recognized as an Icon of the
American Civil
Rights Movement; and
Whereas, Dolores Huerta is recognized as an Icon of the
American
Women's Movement; and
Whereas, Dolores Huerta has been a member of California
LULAC Council #3090 since 2000 and civil rights advisor to
the State Board; and
Whereas, Dolores Huerta has been bestowed six honorary
doctorate degrees from the most prestigious universities in
America; and
Whereas, Dolores Huerta was awarded the Eleanor Roosevelt
Medal by
President Bill Clinton; and
Whereas, Dolores Huerta has established the Dolores Huerta
Foundation to train grass roots community organizers
dedicated to building Latino
Neighborhood Associations in the Central Valley of
California, which is one
of the poorest areas of the United States with 40 per cent
unemployment;
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that California LULAC urges that
National LULAC join the Dolores Huerta Foundation in
celebrating her 80th Birthday in 2010 and urges each State
LULAC Board and local council to join in this celebration
during 2010.
