Resolution - Global Warming
WHEREAS, for many years we have been made aware of the ever increasing danger of global warming. WHEREAS, in 2007 former Vice President Albert Gore Prize for his efforts in promoting awareness as well policy in order to address the threat of global warming. WHEREAS, Speaker José F. Aponte-Hernández and the House of Representatives of Puerto Rico have acted upon this challenge by creating a special committee on global warming which has already submitted reports with multiple recommendations and measures to be adopted in order to reduce some of the effects of global warming and the dangers that it presents to the US citizens who reside in Puerto Rico. WHEREAS, on May 18, 2008 the LULAC Puerto Rico State Convention approved a Resolution in order to establish a Global Warming in order for LULAC to join efforts with the House of Representatives of Puerto Rico, colleges and universities and the private sector in educating our People with regards to this ever increasing threat and the multiple steps and measures that can be taken in order to reduce some of its impact on our island. WHEREAS, there is still much to be done at the educational and public policy levels in order to properly address this issue across our Nation and, particularly, in our Hispanic communities; as many of the materials available on this issue have only been printed in English. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the League of United Latin American Citizens will join the effort already undertaken at the 2008 LULAC Puerto Rico State Convention. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution would allow LULAC to consider the possibility of integrating colleges and universities in this endeavor, as well as interested companies in the private sector.
