Resolution
Bill of Rights for Diabetes
WHEREAS, the League of United Latin American
Citizens advocates for the well being of all
Latinos; and
WHEREAS, diabetes is a disease
that is afflicting Latinos in disproportionate
numbers throughout this country; and
WHEREAS, numerous and
continuous efforts are in place seeking
treatment, prevention and or elimination of said
dreaded disease; and
WHEREAS, the 2007 American
Diabetes Association Standards of Care states
that all individuals with diabetes should
undergo a set series of examinations, see
enclosed; and
WHEREAS, research shows that
said examinations would serve to avoid
complications and very possibly save life and
limb; and
WHEREAS, said strong
recommendations from the 2007 ADA Standards of
Care needs to be transformed into Bill of Rights
for Diabetes; and
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED,
that LULAC will adhere to said recommendations
by the well respected American Diabetes
Association and take this cause to the halls of
congress and ask that this be the Bill of Rights
for Diabetes.
