SUPPORT OF INDEPENDENT INVESTIGATION BY U.S. DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE

WHEREAS, there have been three (3) killings of young Latinos by the Policeman in Midland, Texas in the years 2006-2007; and

WHEREAS, the Midland Latino Community is alleging unnecessary deadly force by the Midland Police; and

WHEREAS, the LULAC Permian Basic Council #4434 and the LULAC National President, Rosa Rosales, have officially requested an independent investigation by the U.S. Department of Justice Civil Rights Division;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT, the Texas LULAC Assembly at the 2007 LULAC State Convention in El Paso, Texas, go on record to support Council #4434 of Midland, Texas and the National President of LULAC, Rosa Rosales, in requesting an independent investigation in the killing of young Latinos in Midland, Texas, by the U.S. Department of Justice.
