RESTORATION AND REAUTHORIZATION OF THE US DOL
NATIONAL FARMWORKER JOB TRAINING, MIGRANT YOUTH
AND FARMWORKER HOUSING PROGRAM TO THE 2007-2008
BUDGET WHEREAS, farm workers
toil the fields to put food on our nation’s
tables; and
WHEREAS, these (adults and
youth) farm workers desperately need job
training and affordable housing; and
WHEREAS, the President’s
budget eliminates the vital job training and
housing program to nation’s 5.1 million
primarily Latino farm workers to their
detriment; and
WHEREAS, by eliminating this
program known as Workforce 167, the only job
training program by the US DOL affecting
primarily Hispanics, is wiped out; and
WHEREAS, 5.1 million primarily
Latino farm workers will be adversely affected;
and
THEREFORE, we request that
President Bush restore the National Farm Worker
Job Training and Housing program to $166,000,000
for adults, $20,000,000 for migrant youth and
$10,000.000 for farm worker technical assistance
to the 2007-2008 budget.
THEREFORE, we request that
this resolution be approved at the Arizona LULAC
Convention and forwarded to the national LULAC
convention to become a national legislative
priority.
