SUPPORT OF H.R. 2134 –
NATIONAL LATINO MUSEUM
Whereas, the story of the
Hispanic contribution to the formation and
development of the United States has not be
told; and
Whereas,
an increasing number of
Hispanic/Latinos continues to contribute to a
growth in the demographics of our nation; and
Whereas,
our nation’s heritage has not
appropriately included the history of this
Hispanic population; and
Whereas,
a museum that displays artifacts
and a great amount of historical evidence of the
contributions of Hispanics should be established
for the purpose of educating the general public
about the important role and participation of
Latinos in American society, both of the past
and as it evolves in the future; and
Whereas,
H.R. 2134 has been sponsored by
and supported by Rep. Xavier Becerra (D-CA) and
Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL), and Mr. Michael
Soukup, Associate Director for Natural Resource
Stewardship and Science at the National Park
Service; Senators Hatch, Martinez, Menendez and
Salazar who have introduced similar legislation
in the Senate,
THerefore
be it resolved, that LULAC
support and promote H.R. 2134 for the
establishment of a National Museum of the
American Latino Community.
