Resolution
RESTORATION AND
REAUTHORIZATION OF THE US DOL NATIONAL
FARMWORKER JOB TRAINING, MIGRANT YOUTH AND
FARMWORKER HOUSING PROGRAM TO THE 2006-2007
BUDGET
WhereaS, farm workers toil the
fields to put food on our nation’s tables; and
WhereaS,
these (adults and youth) farm workers
desperately need job training and affordable
housing; and
WhereaS,
the President’s budget eliminates the vital job
training and housing program to the nation’s 5.1
million primarily Latino farm workers to their
detriment; and
WhereaS,
by eliminating this program known as Workforce
167, the only job training program by the US DOL
affecting primarily Hispanics, is wiped out; and
WhereaS,
5.1 million primarily Latino farm workers will
be adversely affected;
Therefore,
we request that President Bush restore the
National Farm Worker Job Training and Housing
program to $166 million for adults, $20 million
for migrant youth and $10 million for farm
worker technical assistance to the 2006-2007
budget.
Therefore,
we request that this resolution be approved at
the Arizona LULAC Convention and forwarded to
the National LULAC convention to become a
national legislative priority.
Adopted this 1st day of July
2006.
