Resolution
TO DENOUNCE THE CIRCULATION OF
THE MEXICAN POSTAGE STAMP DEPICTING “MEMIN
PINGUIN”
Whereas,
Mexico has issued five postage stamps depicting
a black cartoon character known as Memin Pinguin;
and
Whereas,
the character is derogatory in its depiction of
persons of African descent; and
Whereas,
LULAC
believes these stamps to be offensive in that
they promote negative stereotypes and fosters
racism;
NOW
Therefore, Be It Resolved,
that the
League of United Latin American Citizens
lobby the Mexican government to withdraw the
circulation of the aforementioned stamps
immediately.
