Reaffirmation of Laws
Prohibiting Discrimination Against Students
Based on Citizenship, Race, or National Origin
WHEREAS, the League of United Latin American
Citizens is this nation's oldest and largest
Latino organization, founded in Corpus Christi.
Texas on February 24, 1929; and
WHEREAS, LULAC throughout its
history has committed itself to the principle
that Latinos have equal access to opportunities
in employment, education, housing and
healthcare; and
WHEREAS, students attending
public schools come from families with differing
citizenship status, and reflect the diversity of
our society in both race and, national origin;
and
WHEREAS, these students, are
accorded the opportunity for an education in the
United States; and
WHEREAS, LULAC throughout its
history has committed Itself to the principle
that youth have equal access to opportunities in
education regardless of citizenship, race, or
national origin; and
WHEREAS, LULAC has supported
the principles of student equal opportunity for
education regardless of citizenship, race, or
national origin; and
WHEREAS, the Arizona
Superintendent of Public Instruction has sought
lo deny equal access and equal opportunity for
students in the public education system;
THEREFORE, LULAC reaffirms its
support of the U.S. Constitution, federal, and
state laws prohibiting discrimination against
students based on citizenship, race, or national
origin.
