Resolution

To Include Hispanics’ Accomplishments in Textbooks

BE IT RESOLVED that Gelena Park Council #4703 of the League of United Latin American Citizens supports the teachings of the contributions made by Hispanics (by which we mean Mexicans, Tejanos and other Spanish settlers). More specifically, we wish that their contributions in the development of Texas history be included in text books from K-12th grade. Enough research has now been done to include pertinent passages of the contributions of the Hispanics. We encourage the Texas State legislature and the Texas State Board of Education to pursue the project with utmost urgency so that the future textbooks will reflect the truth about our involvement in Texas history and the American dream.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, to help any state agency or organization, including the Texas Association of School Boards, if it so desires to assist us in this matter, to make the teaching contributions of Hispanics to the development of Texas and the United States a priority!
