Resolution
School Financing Reform
WHEREAS, the governor of the
great state of Texas has called the Texas
legislature into special session to address the
issue of school finance; and
WHEREAS, a sales
tax increase served to overburden people who are
least able to afford tax increases; and
WHEREAS, an
incentive plan prepared by the governor will
give schools with greater needs less of an
opportunity to receive increase funding; and
NOW THEREFORE BE IT
RESOLVED that LULAC opposes regressive
sales tax increases and any type of incentive
program that discriminates unfairly against
those most in need; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED
that LULAC advocates for a fiscal plan that
provides for equity in funding and academic
opportunity for all Texas Youth.
