Victims of Wrongful or Coerced Repatriation
 

WHEREAS, thousands of U.S. citizens and legal residents of Mexican descent were coerced, forced, or falsely induced to emigrate from California during the period from 1929 to 1944; and 

WHEREAS, victims of repatriation were coerced, forced, or falsely induced to emigrate by a city, county, or state governmental authority or anyone acting under color of that authority, including, but not limited to an private individual or business entity; and 

WHEREAS, callous repatriation constituted clear violations of the California constitutional and/or property rights of victims of unconstitutional, wrongful, or coerced repatriation; and 

WHEREAS, the LULAC Code calls us to “respect your citizenship and preserve it; honor your country maintain its tradition in the spirit of its citizens and embody your self into its culture and civilization.”  

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED that District #1 LULAC strongly, support the introduction of new legislation addressing the rights of victims of wrongful or coerced repatriation and urges its elective representatives to ensure its passage and its governor to affix his signature and enact such laws during the current legislative session.
