Resolution
Supporting LULAC Functions
WHEREAS, LULAC’s mission to
advance the economic condition, educational
attainment, health, civil rights as well as
political influence of all Latinos in the nation
is furthered by the countless hours of LULAC
members (volunteers) devoted to social justice;
and
WHEREAS, due to
the fact that there is a decline in the
percentage of voting Latinos despite the number
of eligible Latino voters having more than
doubled; and
WHEREAS, in the
2000 election (when the U.S. population was
composed of about 34 million Hispanic
Americans), 6 million Latinos actually voted
(that means that out of the 105, 58,274 people
that voted in 2000, only 6 million were
Hispanic. Latinos in other words, made up
slightly under 6 percent of the voter turn out
in 2000).
NOW THERFORE, BE IT
RESOLVED that LULAC as a non-profit,
non-partisan organization will continue to
educate our community about the importance of
political participation, voting rights, and
voter registration thru our voting activation
manuals, town-hall meetings, press conferences
and one on one conversations with the public,
and that all LULAC members and their families
continue to register new eligible voters and
conduct voter activation drivers throughout the
nation.
LET IT BE FURTHER
RESOLVED that LULAC will make civic
participation education a priority so that we
can gain the political influence Latinos
deserve.
Submitted by Ana Yanez-Correa,
