Resolution to State LULAC
Council/ Honoring Cesar Chavez/ NFJP/ and Our
Nation’s 5.1 Million Migrant and Seasonal
Farmworkers
WHEREAS, Cesar Chavez’ lasting influence
and legacy is felt throughout the North, Central
and South America; and
WHEREAS, these
regions have all produced immigrants and
farmworkers to toil the fields of our land and
put the food on our tables and the tables of the
world; and
WHEREAS, the Pan
American Highway that begins in British
Columbia, Canada, is part of South 6th
Avenue, Tuscon, AZ, and terminates in Chile,
South America was traveled by many; and
WHEREAS, I-10
transverses the United States from the Atlantic
Ocean to the Pacific Ocean and intersects South
6th Avenue and the Pan American
Highway in Tuscon, creating migratory cross
points for all the aforementioned continents.
THEREFORE, as a
tribute to Cesar Chavez and to some 5.1 million
migrant and seasonal farmworkers whose personal
sacrifices have benefited us all, we as LULAC
take upon this challenge of designating and
renaming that portion of South 6th
Avenue. I-10 Bridge, as well as a memorial to
Cesar Chavez in his native San Luis, AZ.
THEREFORE, the
renaming of South 6th Avenue to
become Avenida Cesar Chavez and the two
monuments aforementioned compliments to other
efforts, including the designation of a State
Holiday and restoration and reauthorization of
the National Farmworker Jobs Program (NFJP) to
honor Cesar Chavez and the farmworkers of this
land. |
