Amnesty and Rights for The Immigrant Worker and Their Families
 

WHEREAS, Everyday, Immigrant workers make vital contributions to our economy, our communities and our nation. 

WHEREAS, Nearly 50,000 members of America’s Armed Forces are immigrants who defend our country. 

WHEREAS, Everyday, immigrants continue to contribute to America’s growth and to defend America at all cost.  Despite the fact that 31,000 immigrants served in Iraq, only to have received citizenship, posthumously, America’s troops and their families should have the right to citizenship, today. 

WHEREAS, The League of United Latin American Citizens believes in Democratic principles, like the Constitution of a democratic nation that allows hardworking immigrant protection against illegal and unfair treatment without reprisals or retaliation. 

WHEREAS, This country is a nation of immigrants, who helped build this country into the world’s strongest nation. 

WHEREAS, They have earned the right to expect the country they helped build to acknowledge their contributions. 

WHEREAS, Undocumented immigrants contribute at least 300 Billion dollars to the gross national product annually according to a new study released by the University of California at Los Angeles North American Integration and Development Center. More recent higher-end estimates could push the aggregate contribution to approximately $440 Billion. 

WHEREAS, Immigrants are major contributors to the U.S. economy, extending legalization to hard working, tax-paying immigrants already in the country would create a win-win situation for both the immigrant family and America’s economic future. 

WHEREAS, Many of these immigrants are the parents of children who are birth right U.S. citizens. 

WHEREAS, LULAC supports to adjust their status to permanent residence and become eligible for naturalization. 

WHEREAS, Immigrants give far more than they take, without immigration workers already in this country, our economy would collapse. 

WHEREAS, LULAC also calls on the immigration and naturalization service to address the delays facing those seeking to adjust their status as a result of the Immigration Reform and Control Act. 

WHEREAS, LULAC supports defending the rights of immigrant workers and the right to organize calling for the reform on the broken immigration laws

WHEREAS, The ability of immigrant workers to organize has been increasingly threatened by current immigration law and it’s enforcement, which has been used to retaliate against workers who organize and protest against abuse, and sweat-shop conditions. 

WHEREAS, LULAC condemns the coyote system and calls on the laws of the countries where these crimes against humanity occur to prosecute to the highest levels. 

WHEREAS, Everyday immigrants leave their countries of origin seeking the American Dream, these often-dangerous journeys have resulted in the deaths of thousands along the 140 mile long California, and Arizona border, so called Operation Gatekeeper has resulted in a 400% increase in immigrants deaths.  

WHEREAS, LULAC calls for a new Amnesty Program, allowing millions of hard working undocumented immigrants to regularize their status, and will work to promote an expedidted citizenship process to allow immigrants to become citizens as quickly and easily as possible and support the immigrant worker Freedom Ride to Washington D.C. October 1 and 2, 2003, New York City October 4, 2003. 

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that this LULAC State Convention support this resolution to the 74th LULAC National Convention in Orlando, Florida and take a leading role defending the human rights of immigrants and their families who work hard and pay taxes, to live in fear of being deported for simply going to work each day.
