WHEREAS, this is a public safety and security matter; and
WHEREAS, in several states, including the State of Florida, this driving privilege has been abrogated by executive order of the governor; and
WHEREAS, these driving prohibitions have resulted in an increase in hazardous driving without proper training and an increasing accident rate as well as other collateral emotional and social damages; and
WHEREAS, other states such as Tennessee, North Carolina and Illinois, have implemented a procedure for issuing valid driver licenses to undocumented state residents; and
WHEREAS, issuing driver licenses to the undocumented will provide identification to assist local law enforcement and other government and private sector entities who work with the undocumented population,
NOW THERFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, we are urging the State of Florida and other states to implement immediate mitigating measures to suspend the Governor's executive order of preventing the issuing of driver license's to undocumented immigrants and to initiate the proper legislative changes.
