RESOLUTION

Honoring Command Sergeant Major Ramon Rodriguez.

WHEREAS, the United States of America and the President of the United States of America authorized by an act of Congress on July 9, 1918 has certified, recognized and awarded three silver stars to Command Sergeant Major (e-9) Ramon Rodriguez Ra 19 682 251 United States Army for his gallantry in action in the Republic of Vietnam

WHEREAS, the United States of America and the President of the United States of America awarded the Silver Star to Staff Sergeant (E-6) Ramon Rodriguez, United States Army For Gallantry in Action in the Republic of Vietnam on 5 February 1968. Sergeant Rodriguez's personal bravery and devotion to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army,

WHEREAS, the Department of Army Headquarters 101st Airborne Division (Airmobile) on General Orders Number 12315 awarded Staff Sergeant Ramon Rodriguez, Company A 2nd Battalion 327th Infantry, the Silver Star for his gallantry in action near Hue, Republic of Vietnam on January 24, 1968. Sergeant Rodriguez distinguished himself while serving as a platoon sergeant when his outpost came under a heavy barrage of enemy mortars, followed by a ground assault. Sergeant Rodriguez although wounded in the arm and with complete disregard for his own safety, began moving through the trench line administering aid to the wounded personnel and leveling intense fire that killed four enemy sappers and courageously managed to hold off the enemy onslaught,

WHEREAS, the Department of the Army Headquarters 101st Airborne Division (Airmobile) on General Orders Number 12522 awarded Staff Sergeant Ramon Rodriguez, Company A, 2nd Battalion 327th Infantry, the Silver Star (First Oak Leaf Cluster) for his gallantry in action near Phu Bai, Republic of Vietnam on February 26, 1968. Sergeant Rodriguez distinguished himself while serving as a platoon sergeant when his platoon, on a search and clear mission, was ambushed by an unknown size enemy force in which the platoon leader and lead man were seriously wounded and Rodriguez assumed command. Although wounded and with complete disregard for his own safety, while under hostile fire, Rodriguez pulled the wounded personnel to safety. A sweep of the area revealed eight mortally wounded insurgents, seven AK-47 rifles and three grenade launchers,

WHEREAS, the authority was by direction of the President of the United States under the provisions of the Act of Congress approved 25 July 1963.

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that this organization, the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) join in full endorsement and support along with the Los Angeles Chapter of the 11th Airborne Division Association of Southern California, "Rakkasans" Chapter One and "Rakkasans" Steel Beret Chapter in the campaign and efforts to support and encourage the President of the United States of America and the United States Congress to award Command Sergeant Major Ramon Rodriguez the Congressional Medal of Honor

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Texas LULAC urge the U.S. Department of Defense, congressmen via President George W. Bush to award Command Sergeant Major Ramon Rodriguez the Congressional Medal of Honor.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that Executive Board Members and general members of LULAC contact their federally elected officials to urge the support of the awarding of the Congressional Medal of Honor to Command Sergeant Major Ramon Rodriguez.
