WHEREAS, the riches of this nation, be they financial or cultural, are a direct benefit of people who left their homes in other countries to come and build a nation based on liberty, and
WHEREAS, that since the Republicans took control of Congress, they have passed various anti-immigrant laws without thinking about the suffering they cause immigrant families, and
WHEREAS, the violence inflicted against immigrants by police agencies keeps growing each day, in California, Texas and Florida, and everywhere in between, and
WHEREAS, even though many families were able to become legal under the 245(i) program, there are many who were left behind waiting to enter the program before it ended, and
WHEREAS, it is an injustice against a worker who is not permitted to bring his family to this country when he comes to work in the United States, therefore
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that as members of LULAC we condemn the ill-treatment of immigrant workers, with or without documents, also
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, to work actively to end the physical violence against immigrants, both along the border and within the borders of our country, and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, to demand that Congress adopt a new program to legalize all those workers and their families that have come to this country to win a better life for their families, and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, to encourage every LULAC member to support the efforts of the United Farm Workers to deliver one million postcards to the President and to the Congress demanding changes in our outmoded immigration policies and a complete overhaul of the agencies charged with administering those immigration policies.
