RESOLUTION

Medical Plan for Low-Income Adults

WHEREAS, the cost of medical services keeps increasing faster than other living expenses, and

WHEREAS, the cost of one day in the hospital is more than what a minimum wage employee earns in one whole year, and

WHEREAS, when adults get sick it makes it more difficult for them to give their children proper care, and

WHEREAS, in Texas, low income families do not have the resources needed to cover the minimum costs of administering a home, buying health insurance or paying for hospitalizations, and

WHEREAS, the State of Texas has established the CHIPS Medical Plan to cover medical expenses for children of low income families, and

WHEREAS, workers are more productive and miss fewer days of work when they take care of there health than when they are forced to wait until their sickness is unbearable and turns into something more complicated,

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, LULAC urges that our elected officials grant funds to establish medical plans for low income families, such as the CHIPS program for children.
