WHEREAS, the League of United Latin American Citizens supports the purpose of fostering and enlarging the opportunities for training, education, civil rights, job opportunities, housing, economic development and welfare of all Hispanic citizens of the United States; and
WHEREAS, in Arizona there presently exists a Transportation issue for the elderly and,
WHEREAS, the cost of medications are rising and are affecting our elderly especially those in fixed incomes and,
WHEREAS, the state of Arizona recently announced their proposed budget cuts because of state woes in lack of funds and where programs affecting the elderly and women are affected,
WHEREAS, this resolution was passed by it's membership at the Arizona State Convention on May 5, 2002, in Phoenix, AZ,
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT, The national membership of the League of United Latin American Citizens urges community leaders, elected officials, agencies and community committees to strongly advocate for the termination of plans to cut budgets or eliminate existing services for women and the elderly.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT LULAC is advocating that the above mentioned groups come together and develop effective strategies to prevent cuts to these services. LULAC also requests that these groups partner with the local media and legislative supporters to expose the issues.
