WHEREAS, League of United Latin American Citizens supports fostering and increasing the opportunities for training, education, civil rights, job opportunities, housing, economic development, and the welfare of all Hispanics in the United States; and,
WHEREAS, investor owned utilities in Texas profit from all consumers in their respective service territories; and,
WHEREAS, the Department of Energy identify low-income minorities spend 19% of their income on home energy and telephone service; and,
WHEREAS, investor owned utilities promote their support for education and diversity of American cultures, but do not support non-profit organizations that promote diversity and recognition of like issues; and,
WHEREAS, the funding levels of those investor owned utilities have been miniscule in regards to their profits and funding to all like non-profit organizations;
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) advocates the support of the organization of Corporate America Advancement of Latinos (CAAL) in their efforts to establish and increase the corporate responsibility of these investor owned utilities and all like organizations.
