RESOLUTION

Recommending the Appointment of Judge Alia Moses Ludlum to the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas Del Rio Division

WHEREAS, the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) is the oldest and largest Hispanic Civil Rights Organization.

WHEREAS, the Honorable Alia Moses Ludlum, United States Magistrate Judge, Western District of Texas, del Rio Division is the ideal person to be appointed Federal Judge to the District she now represents.

WHEREAS Judge Alia Moses Ludlum is bilingual fluent in Spanish and English, is a product of the border region of which she is now serving and is the best qualified person to serve in the Del Rio Division.

WHEREAS, Judge Alia Moses Ludlum has the education, experience, knowledge, expertise, commitment and integrity to serve proudly with dignity, fairness and objectively.

WHEREAS, Judge Alia Moses Ludlum has a proven record of accomplishments, outstanding judicial record and community service.

WHEREAS, Judge Alia Moses Ludlum, is a person with firm beliefs and strong convictions and brings those qualities to those around her and leads them into taking part in the shaping of a better judicial system and a better world.

WHEREAS, Judge Alia Moses Ludlum emanates the ideals principles, philosophy of law and commitment that characterize the Hispanic community and all others who practice American values and principles.

WHEREAS, Judge Alia Moses Ludlum, has an outstanding judicial and legal record dating back to 1984.

WHEREAS, there is a crying need for a Federal judge in the Del Rio Division because of the heavy case load and under-representation of our people.

WHEREAS, Judge Alia Moses Ludlum epitomizes what we in LULAC consider the true virtues of excellence in the interpretation of the U.S. Constitution.

WHEREAS, let it be known that Judge Alia Mose Ludlum is a credit to her profession and a positive role model for our citizens.

WHEREAS, United States Senators Phil Gramm and Kay Bailey Hutchison have endorsed Judge Alia Moses Ludlum along with the support of United States Congressman Henry Bonilla to fill the U.S. District Court Judge vacancy in Del Rio.

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the League of United Latin American Citizens recommends the appointment of Judge Alia Moses Ludlum to the United States District Court for the Western District of Texas Del Rio Division. We urge and request that President George W. Bush submit Judge Alia Moses Ludlum's name to the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee and we urge and request diligently said Judiciary Committee to submit Judge Alia Moses Ludlum's name to the U.S. Senate for confirmation. This appointment will provide the restoration and recognition of the Hispanic's equal standing in American Society, our respect and honor as a people and the dignity that our heritage has given us.
