WHEREAS, the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) is the oldest Latino pro-Hispanic Civil Rights Organization in the U.S.A. and,
WHEREAS, LULAC is an organization composed of volunteer members dedicated to gaining the same rights and opportunities for Hispanics as accorded to all Americans,
WHEREAS, LULAC is committed exerting its efforts individually and cooperatively on behalf of those who need the help and protection of LULAC and, as our motto states "All For One, One For All",
WHEREAS, Cesar Chavez is the only Hispanic-Mexican-American civil rights hero and leader in the U.S.A.;
WHEREAS, California and other states in the U.S.A. have already declared Cesar V. Chavez Day Holyday in the U.S.A.
WHEREAS, Cesar Chavez Day is presently only an optional holiday in Texas even though Mexican-Americans are the majority of all minorities;
WHEREAS, Mexican Americans do not have a more just and deserving leader who fought for dignity and respect and justice for all migrant workers;
WHEREAS, Cesar Chavez deserves to be honored among the many other civil rights leaders whose official holydays are celebrated in Texas.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOVED, that LULAC supports the efforts of their own councils on both National, State, and District levels to petition the Texas Legislature to name March 31st as the official Cesar Chavez Holyday in Texas and to honor that day throughout the state for the man who stood firm for dignity, respect and justice for Mexican-American workers!
