RESOLUTION

Creates Anthony Quinn Award

WHEREAS, the Mexican actor Anthony Quinn acted for more than fifty years in movies at the national level; and

WHEREAS, in his extraordinary career Anthony Quinn achieved the highest awards in the cinematography industry; and

WHEREAS, his portraits of multicultural characters (Germans, Italians, Greeks, Spanish, Arabs and Latinos, among others) demonstrate the equality of races through the movie screen; this is an enormous satisfaction for us, Latinos, accomplished by a brother of our race;

WHEREAS, the actor Anthony Quinn passed away at the age of eighty six years old and his memory should be remembered through our organization;

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, the LULAC National Assembly congregated in Phoenix, Arizona on June 9, 2001 decided that:
Section 1: establish the Anthony Quinn Award and present it annually to the actor or actress who most contributes to the causes of the Hispanic community;
Section 2: give the first Anthony Quinn Award to the actor Edward James Olmos for his tireless fight in favor of our community.
Section 3: let the LULAC National Directors Committee determine if this award should be given the LULAC Legislative Gala or at the LULAC National Convention Assemble.
