RESOLUTION

Opposing Castro Intervention in American Affairs

WHEREAS, the values, virtues and democratic principles that possess LULAC are based in the political, religious, and social justice, freedom, and economic opportunities for all of those citizens looking for the American dream; and

WHEREAS, among the purposes of LULAC, there is the need of fighting any tendency or anti-American principle that wants to deprive United States citizens and its territories of its rights for justice, equality, and freedom of expression and association; and

WHEREAS, during the past weeks there have been many actions made by the Cuban government along with representatives of the pro-independent sector of Puerto Rico, which assume positions that exclusively concern the citizens of Puerto Rico;

WHEREAS, an anti-American Government that does not respect the democracy and that constantly violates the Human and Civil Rights of the Citizens, such as the Communist regime of Fidel Castro in Cuba, is not in the position of getting involved on issues related with the lives, peace and justice of the American Citizens;

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, the opposition of any interference by Fidel Castro and his Communist regime on issues concerning the human rights and the rights of justice, equality and peace for the American citizens residing in Vieques and in the island of Puerto Rico.

Approved this 9th day of June, 2001.
