WHEREAS, NBC Television is an English language broadcast network with access to the majority of television viewers in the United States, and
WHEREAS, NBC is only one of a limited number of broadcasters licensed by the FCC to operate a television network, and
WHEREAS, the intent of said licensing is to permit Broadcasters use of the public airwaves in the public interest, and
WHEREAS, NBC, whose parent company is General Electric, has tendered an offer to purchase Telemundo Network for $1.98 billion, and
WHEREAS, Telemundo is one of only two Spanish language networks for Latinos in the United States, and
WHEREAS, NBC and Telemundo have refused to allow Latino organizations to participate in the formulation of decisions affecting the future of Latinos within their network and for the Latino community at large, and
WHEREAS, LULAC is a member of the National Latino Media Council, and strongly supports this objection to this licensing request by NBC, now
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the League of United Latin American Citizens, LULAC, the nation's oldest and largest advocate for Latinos in the United States does hereby resolve to support the Motion to Deny filed against NBC by the National Latino Media Council, and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that LULAC hereby calls for the FCC to hold public hearings on this matter to receive additional public input on the detrimental and irreparable effect the purchase of Telemundo by NBC will have on Latinos in the U.S.
