WHEREAS, immigrants come to this country to work,

WHEREAS, immigrants have been paying social security, disability, unemployment, federal and state taxes,

WHEREAS, driving in California is critical to be able to work and support a family,

WHEREAS, the DMV has been threatening immigrants with jail if they give false information when they renew their driver's license and identification cards;

WHEREAS, a driver's license should be issued to all motorists who can pass a written and driving test and provide some method of identification card such as a birth certificate,

WHEREAS, the DMV of unlicensed drivers is a safety issue and will driving without knowledge of the traffic laws, and has led to uninsured motorist driving.

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that LULAC supports pending legislation to make it easier for undocumented immigrants to get a driver's license.
