RESOLUTION

To Support Farmworkers

WHEREAS, the League of United Latin American Citizens recognizes and promotes the advancement of the Latino community in Ventura County as in all the United States of America and Puerto Rico; and

WHEREAS, the employees of PictSweet Mushroom Farms in Ventura, California have sought to obtain a contract through the UFW since 198; and

WHEREAS, the employees are asking for a 4% raise, currently have health insurance with a $150 per family member deductible, no eye care nor dental plan and are seeking more affordable benefits such as a better family health plan, eye care and dental care; and

WHEREAS, PictSweet workers' wages, benefits and conditions on the job have not improved significantly since 1983 when they last had a contract; and

WHEREAS, a worker was suffering a stroke and instead of driving him to a hospital, was sent home in his own vehicle by himself, and

WHEREAS, PictSweet has illegally promoted and attempted to undermine and decertify the UFW despite overwhelming support by its workers for the UFW, and

WHEREAS, the employees of the PictSweet Mushroom farm of Ventura, California have called for a national boycott of PictSweet Frozen Foods, and

WHEREAS, PictSweet management has laid off employees, cut hours and dumped its product its product in light of the boycott instead of negotiating a fair and just agreement,

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that National LULAC joins California LULAC in calling on its members and supporters to boycott all products of PictSweet Mushrooms of Ventura California and PictSweet Frozen Foods in the entire United States of America and Puerto Rico.

LULAC takes this decision in support of the employees of the PictSweet Mushroom Farm in Ventura, California until a fair and just agreement between employees and PictSweet Frozen Foods brings better securities and benefits for the employees and their families. LULAC recognizes that such benefits and securities will advance our community as a whole.
