Washington, DC – MillerCoors has chosen Lizette Jenness Olmos, National Communications Director, of the League of United Latin American Citizens, to participate in this year’s Líderes campaign honoring leaders in the Hispanic community. Lizette is among 12 Hispanic Líderes from across the country to be selected as the national Líder of the year.

One leader out of the twelve will be selected as the Líder of the Year through a public online vote at www.MillerCoorsLideres.com. The voting starts today and will be held through November 20, 2009. The winner will receive a $25,000 grant for a community leadership project with their non-profit organization and MillerCoors.

“We are honored that Lizette was selected as one of the 2009 MillerCoors Líderes,” said LULAC National President Rosa Rosales. “Thanks to MillerCoors, Lizette’s commitment to the Hispanic community will be highlighted, hopefully inspiring others to hone their leadership skills to better serve their own communities.”

Lizette has been chosen as part of Líderes because of her passion and involvement in the Hispanic community working on major issues including health care, immigration, education, hate crimes and discrimination. Lizette’s slogan, “If you put your heart and mind to it, anything can be accomplished.” Lizette is a prime example of a dedicated and hard working first-generation immigrant who has achieved success and has served her nation well.

“Being selected as one of this year’s Líderes and having the opportunity to participate in a campaign that furthers leadership within the Hispanic community is a great privilege,” said Brent Wilkes, National Executive Director of LULAC. “Through this innovative initiative we’re given the chance to inspire future generations thereby benefiting the Hispanic community as a whole.”

“The 2009 Líderes are a diverse group of respected community leaders and MillerCoors is proud to highlight their achievements,” said Joedis Avila, Multicultural Relations Manager for MillerCoors. “Through Líderes we hope to support national and local leaders within the Hispanic community who serve as an inspiration and examples of what one person’s dedication can accomplish. They are all deserving of the Líder of the Year honor.”

Since 2006, Líderes has raised awareness and highlighted the achievements of a diverse group of respected national and local leaders within the Hispanic community. In past years the program has included a series of workshops held across the country where participants were able to network and explore themes related to leadership.
