Washington, DC – The League of United Latin American Citizens, the oldest
and largest Hispanic civil rights organization in the country, commends the
NFL for their decision to not include right-wing talk radio host Rush
Limbaugh’s bid to purchase the St. Louis Rams.
“The NFL is held to a high standard and Rush Limbaugh does not meet that
standard because of his derogatory comments on his show,” said LULAC
National President Rosa Rosales. “Divisive comments are not what the NFL is
all about."
The NFL's players union, which has a majority of black members, came out
strongly against Limbaugh, while some players said they would not play for
any team in which he had a stake.
In 2003 Limbaugh said that McNabb was over-praised as a quarter-back because
he was black. Limbaugh resigned from ESPN following his remarks.
In 2007 he said that a particularly brutal game resembled a fight between
the Crips and the Bloods, two notorious African-American street gangs.
LULAC praises the NFL for taking the appropriate action and not being
associated with someone as incendiary as Limbaugh.
The League of United Latin American Citizens, the largest and oldest
Hispanic membership organization in the country, advances the economic
conditions, educational attainment, political influence, health, housing and
civil rights of Hispanic Americans through community-based programs
operating at more than 700 LULAC councils nationwide.
