Washington, DC – Wal-Mart
Stores, Inc. today announced its support to the
League of United Latin American Citizens’
(LULAC) first Hispanic American Veterans Summit
to be held this week in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
This is the first event of LULAC’s alliance with
the Community Prosperity Partnership (CPP) the
Veterans Affairs Administration, the American GI
Forum and ASPIRA. Wal-Mart’s support will be
used to pay tribute to the families of 54 Puerto
Rican Iraq war casualties who will be honored at
a luncheon on Thursday, Nov. 2.
The summit will bring together
LULAC members, Veterans Affairs officials,
federal and local government agencies and
private sectors to discuss issues and policies
that directly affect America’s Hispanic
veterans. It will also provide information and
tools to help veterans and their families adapt
and better respond to the future challenges they
face in their communities when they come home.
“Wal-Mart has a long history
of supporting and honoring military families and
veterans. This includes our work with Sesame
Workshop to develop bilingual outreach kits to
help young children of the U.S. Armed Services,
National Guard and Reserves deal with the
various stresses of military life,” said
Wal-Mart’s Vice President for Diversity
Relations Esther Silver-Parker. “We are proud to
support the first Hispanic American Veteran’s
Summit and to help honor those who have made the
ultimate sacrifice for our country as well as
their families.”
“We are very thankful for
Wal-Mart’s support to our first Hispanic
American Veterans Summit,” said LULAC National
President Rosa Rosales. “Aside from paying
homage to the accomplishments of Hispanic
veterans, the panels, workshops, exhibitions and
job fairs featured in this summit will help
respond to the needs of these heroes and their
families.”
