Washington, DC – The League of
United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) is elated
at the decision by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to
appoint Rep. Silvestre Reyes (TX-16) as chair of
the House Permanent Select Committee on
								Intelligence.
								“As chair for the House
								Intelligence Committee, Congressman Reyes will
provide much needed legislative oversight in
intelligence issues. Having worked at the Border
Patrol for 26 years, Congressman Reyes will
without a doubt, increase our nation’s
intelligence capabilities, work in a bipartisan
fashion, and help keep our borders fully
secured. This is an excellent choice and we look
forward to working with him in this key
position,” said LULAC National President Rosa
								Rosales.
								Reyes has served on key
committees as the Intelligence Committee since
2001, a member of the Subcommittee on Oversight
and the Subcommittee on Terrorism, Human
								Intelligence, Analysis and Counterintelligence.
He currently serves on the House Armed Services
Committee and the House Veterans Affairs
								Committee.
								LULAC submitted a letter of
recommendation this week to Speaker Pelosi and a
								follow-up letter congratulating the decision
								made today.
								The League of United Latin
American Citizens (LULAC) is the oldest and
largest Hispanic civil rights organization in
the United States. LULAC advances the economic
								condition, educational attainment, political
influence, health and civil rights of Hispanic
								Americans through community-based programs
operating at more than 700 LULAC councils
