Dallas, TX – The League of United Latin American
Citizens (LULAC) in partnership with grassroots
groups throughout Dallas is organizing a noon
demonstration on Sunday, April 9th called the
Mega March for American Values and Justice. The
march is part of a series of protests across the
nation in which millions have protested an
immigration bill that would make undocumented
immigrants aggravated felons and build a
“Berlin” style wall along the US Mexican border.
“We want to demonstrate the positive economic
impact of the immigrant community,” said LULAC
National President Hector M. Flores, “We think
this is a matter of dollars and cents and that
America needs to recognize the tremendous
contributions of immigrants to our economy.
Undocumented immigrants contribute about $850
billion more per year then they cost—a huge net
gain for the United States according to a UCLA
study by Dr. Raul Hinojosa. We want to send a
positive message and encourage individuals to
show their pride by bringing their American
flags and wearing white shirts in a sign of
peace in keeping with our religious value of
“Palm Sunday.” LULAC will release a report
entitled “The DREAM Act: A Win-Win Situation” by
Dr. Ed Rincon at the event which documents the
benefits of a bill would allow undocumented high
school graduates to attend colleges and
universities at in-state tuition rates.
“It is a true testament of the solidarity of the
community and the residents of the North Texas,
we have all ethnic groups marching together
because this is about human rights. We have
mothers, daughters, sons and fathers marching
hand and hand making history in Dallas,” said
Lydia Gonzalez-Welch Texas LULAC Executive Board
member.
“We send a message to DC that Latino dollar and
economic power has an impact if we do not spend
one cent on Monday, April 10th. We need to march
and immigrants are part of our country and
American fabric,” said Domingo Garcia Former
State Rep. and LULAC Civil Rights Chair, “This
is the largest march in Dallas history and we
are expecting around 50,000-100,000 people.”
