The 2005 LULAC National Women’s
Conference arrives in Las Vegas
Latinas: Leaders on the Pathway to the Future
April 5, 2005
Las Vegas, Nevada
– The League of United Latin American Citizens
(LULAC) National Women’s Commission will host
the 2005 LULAC National Women’s Conference on
Friday and Saturday, April 8-9, 2005. The
two-day conference, dubbed Latinas: Leaders
on the Pathway to the Future, will address
the challenges that affect Latinas as
individuals.
“Although many Latinas have broken down barriers
and succeeded to leadership level, a large
number continues to experience severe
disparities in corporate and government arenas,”
said Margaret Moran, LULAC National
Vice-President for Women. “This conference will
explore issues facing Latinas in the United
States who are eager to move ahead while keeping
the body and soul intact.”
The Women’s Conference will provide professional
development workshops and seminars targeted to
the needs of Latinas. Workshops will be
tailored to leadership development, health
awareness, education, family, culture,
professional advancement, business
opportunities, and community service. Each
workshop will be organized into three
categories: Mind, Body, and Soul.
“Pursuing the
Mind: Strengthening Latinas Equals Strengthening
Community” will
discuss the next
steps necessary for political activism; the
importance of a quality K-12 education;
workforce development; and building capital
through sound investment.
“Minding the
Body: Accessing Health Care”
will focus on
health care issues and their impact on Latinas
while “Soothing the Soul: Keeping it
Together” will examine the myths,
stereotypes and cultural typologies that can
challenge the mental health of many Latinas.
Speakers for the Women’s Conference will include
Rebecca Vigil Girón, Secretary of State of New
Mexico; Jackie Guerra, Actress and Author; Dr.
Sylvia Melendez Klinger, Founder of Hispanic
Food Communications; and Marisol Deluna, New
York designer.
This pre-eminent event will take place in the
heart of the nation’s fastest growing city, at
the beautiful Flamingo Hotel. This conference
is open to the public. For more information,
