Mexico’s Musical Icon to
Headline Free Community Concert on Behalf of LULAC

Makes First Appearance In Little Rock!

LITTLE ROCK, AR – The LULAC Mariachi Spectacular will be held Thursday, June 30,
beginning at 8:00 p.m. at the Riverfest Amphitheater in the River Market
District of Little Rock, Arkansas. The free concert will feature the first
Little Rock appearance of the internationally renowned Mariachi Vargas de
Tecalitlan direct from Mexico City. Also performing is the all-female mariachis
Las Altenas from San Antonio, Texas. The concert will be held in conjunction
with the 76th National LULAC Convention scheduled June 28 through July 2 in
Little Rock. The free concert will be a showcase of traditional Mexican music
and will bring together over 3,000 national attendees and area mariachi music
fans. “We’re delighted and honored to bring the most renowned symphony of
traditional Mexican music for all of Arkansas to enjoy!” said LULAC President
Hector Flores.
Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlan, a 12-piece ensemble, is considered the most
important group in the history of mariachi music. The group began in 1898 in
Jalisco, Guadalajara Mexico. Today five generations later, they are credited
with the evolution of the mariachi genre of music. Based in Mexico City, the
group has recorded more than fifty albums and has been featured in over 200
films and music videos. The group worked with Linda Ronstadt on her tour and
recording of “Canciones De Mi Padre” in 1987.
Concert tickets are free and will be available beginning Wednesday June 29th at
the LULAC Convention Exhibition Hall in the State House Convention Center and
through participating sponsor exhibit booths. Concert attendees must have a
ticket for admittance.
