								LULAC National President Urges
Telemundo and Univision to Air the two Remaining
2004 Presidential Debates Live on their
								Spanish-language Television Networks

Washington, DC - League of United Latin
American Citizens National President Hector M.
								Flores today urged executives at
								Spanish-language television networks Telemundo
and Univision to air the 2004 Presidential
debate live to their television audiences.

								Between the 2000 vote
and the election this November, the number of
eligible Latino voters will have increased by
about 20% to about 16 million people.  It
is projected that 6,941,000 Latino voters will
vote in the 2004 election, an increase of over a
								million who voted in 2000.
								“We
deserve to have live access to the 2004
								Presidential debates via Spanish-language
								television,“ said LULAC National President
Hector Flores.  “Hispanics are the largest and
fastest-growing minority in the United States.
We need to be exposed to the presidential
candidates as they each talk about their
viewpoints on issues that Latino’s are most
								concerned about, including education,
healthcare, the war in Iraq and the economy.
Additionally, it is important that these
networks educate the community as a whole
								regarding information about voter registration
as well as where and when Latinos can go to cast
								their vote.”
								The League of United Latin
American Citizens (LULAC) is the oldest and
largest Latino civil rights organization in the
United States.  LULAC advances the economic
								condition, educational attainment, political
influence, health, and civil rights of Hispanic
								Americans through community-based programs
operating at more than 700 LULAC councils
								nationwide. LULAC is non-partisan organization
and does not endorse candidates for elected
								office.
