Stop Anti-Immigration Provisions
from Becoming Part of the Intelligence Reform
Bill
Call Your Congressmen Now!
LULAC needs your
help to ensure that anti-immigration provisions
are not included in the Intelligence Reform
Bill. Congress will reconvene on December 6th in
order to obtain a compromise on this bill. Call
your congressmen today and insist that the
anti-immigration provisions are not part of the
compromise.
Before
Thanksgiving the Senate members of the
conference committee devised a compromise that
excluded the worst of the anti-immigrant House
provisions. Representative Sensenbrenner (R-WI),
however, was not satisfied with this compromise
and is insisting on the inclusion of
anti-immigrant provisions including additional
driver's license provisions that would forbid
states to issue licenses to undocumented
immigrants and other legal immigrants.
The Bush
Administration and the conference committee
leadership are pushing to see that a compromise
is made this year.
Please contact
the White House, conference committee members
and your own senators and representatives to
insist that they not allow Representative
Sensenbrenner’s anti-immigration provisions into
the bill.
Please contact
your members of Congress today.

Tell them to:
-
Ensure that
anti-immigrant provisions are kept out of the
intelligence reform bill.
-
Support the
Senate-led compromise which more closely tracks
the recommendations of the 9/11 commission
without adding on unnecessary immigration
measures. This compromise includes strong border
measures and federal standards for driver’s
licenses that will make us safer.
-
Include the true
recommendations of the 9/11 Commission, not the
agenda of those who are anti-immigrant. The
immigration provisions Rep. Sensenbrenner wants
would not have prevented the terrorist attacks
and will not make us safer.
-
Insist that we
need comprehensive immigration reform- not false
solutions that will only cause distrust among
our immigrant communities.
