LULAC Commends FCC's Approval of Univision-HBC Merger

Dallas, TX - League of United Latin American Citizens National President Hector M. Flores and National Executive Director Brent Wilkes issued the following statement regarding today's announcement by the FCC that it has approved the Univision-HBC merger:

"As the president and executive director of the nation's largest and oldest Hispanic civil rights organization, we are pleased that with its approval of Univision's merger with Hispanic Broadcasting, the FCC has justifiably recognized that media companies serving the Hispanic community should be treated like all other media companies."

"We have personally worked with Univision on many occasions and truly appreciate the company's commitment to the betterment of our community. We look forward to the significant opportunities for Hispanics that will be created by the new company, including the enhancement of its policy to recruit talented Hispanics for employment, efforts to narrow the salary gap between employees of Spanish-language media and their English-language counterparts and the strengthening of its programming, which positively features Hispanic talent."

The League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) is the oldest and largest Latino civil rights organization in the United States. LULAC advances the economic condition, educational attainment, political influence, health, and civil rights of Hispanic Americans through community-based programs operating at more than 700 LULAC councils nationwide.
