Ohtlti Awarded to Blanca Vargas

Houston, TX - On June 26 as part of the LULAC National Convention Blanca Vargas, recently reelected President of the Midwest, received the OHTLI award. This honor, presented by Mexican Foreign Affairs Minister, Jorge Castañeda, on behalf of the Mexican Secretary of Foreign Relations and The League of United Latin American Citizen's National Office in Washington D.C., recognizes an individual who has dedicated and worked for the betterment of Mexican community abroad. Prior to her election to Vice President, Vargas, who joined LULAC in 1972, has served the organization in various capacities such as District I Director and Illinois State Director.

The League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) is the oldest and largest Latino civil rights organization in the United States. LULAC advances the economic condition, educational attainment, political influence, health, and civil rights of Hispanic Americans through community-based programs operating at more than 700 LULAC councils nationwide.
